Years ago when I really started investing in all of my self-care, personal spa day mania I would buy body scrubs by brands like Shea Moisture. Eventually I started making my own with just sugar, olive oil, and honey when I realized how simple it was to do so. It has done the trick, but more recently I’ve become intent on buying from and promoting businesses owned by people of color. In an earlier post, I mentioned purchasing products while at the Richmond Jazz Festival, all of which are natural, because I wouldn’t have it any other way, and this was an opportunity to show my support. I visited this particular vendor, Adiva Naturals, and I was interested in a few of the other products, but a demo of this amazing body polish sold me. The founder, Nadira, was very sweet and hospitable; in fact, she did the demo herself, and that made me even more eager to purchase something.
LET ME GIVE YOU THE SPECS.
Of the six scents, I chose Mango. The main ingredients are sugar and organic ginger, the first meant to exfoliate and the second meant to remove toxins. A variety of oils like coconut, olive, avocado, castor and safflower bring this scrub together to create a heavenly tropical scent that is not only pleasant to use, but it also works to uncover beautiful skin. I have eczema that tends to show up in visible places, so it’s important to me that my skin not look or feel rough, which is the reason I originally began using all natural products. I use it in the shower after washing, and my skin already feels irresistibly smooth and it looks extremely healthy.
It’s a sixteen ounce container, which is generous if you ask me, and it’s a good thing, because this is something you can use and will want to use several times a week. It comes with a bamboo stick that is handy for stirring the scrub and a coconut shell to scoop it out, which I think is a very cute and novel idea. I couldn’t be happier about this investment for my own benefit, but certainly to share for your benefit as well.
